Maria Fernanda

Maria Fernanda is an 18 year old young woman who was born paralyzed from the waist down.  Because of her inability to walk, she spent her first 16 years of life in her home, never even leaving her property.  Because of this isolated life, Maria lacked the confidence it took to talk to anyone outside of her immediate family. Because of a generous donation from a WWCRF volunteer, Maria was able to receive her first wheelchair.  The special needs class has given Maria the opportunity to leave her property and socialize with other youth and children in the community. Over the past 3 years, she has gained confidence and self worth. She has one of the best attendance records of the class.  She is learning to read and with funds from the special needs program she is able to meet with a tutor 2 times a week to help with her literacy.
