Dennis Smith has been a tireless volunteer for WCRF. He not only serves on the board of directors, but has made four trips to Nicaragua to work in the LCR community. He is labored under the hot sun putting in the rough plumbing in for the foundation of the community center. He also engineered and led the crew in the building of the patio in front of the community center. Recently this last September he was able to travel to Nicaragua and help put in the flooring in the first half of the building; he also assisted in English classes and traveled to different towns setting up the future baseball goodwill tour.
It is a beautiful thing when one comes across sincerity in today’s world, especially when
encountering individuals who are truly giving back to others in need. Sincerity is one of those
things that is right with our world.” It is fitting that Dennis Smith chose to work with the
Worldwide Child Relief Foundation and has made multiple trips to Nicaragua. His humility and
sincerity are evident. Dennis has given unconditionally of his skills and time in the construction
of the Community Center. He represents the true spirit of WCRF: “helping others learning to
help themselves”.
Ever since Dennis attended Jesuit High School in Sacramento, he has embraced volunteering.
Even today, he remains busy with his compassionate charity. When I tried to interview him, he
was unreachable for several days because he was helping his neighbor, who did not speak
English, overcome a difficult situation. As Dennis so succinctly put his experience in Nicaragua
into words: “the rewards that I received from La Calle Real far exceeded any expectations! If you
are contemplating going with WCRF—just go! The people are so genuine and kind! I came home
with a renewed perspective of the world.”
Dennis has has donated time and money to improve the lives of the people in this impoverished area of the world. Thank you Dennis for all your support and sacrifices over the years!
