After some time in standby we are happy to reinitiate our intern program! This time our volunteer Rosario Lopez from UC Davis is developing a nutrition project aimed for the Special Needs Kids, and young people in the Community. The project consists of:
1) Elaboration of a nutrition guide.
2) Nutrition education to young people in the community.
3) Nutrition education for mothers of underweight children.
So far the first to sections have been completed and part three is in progress! We are also grateful for the united effort of the Youth Council members.
A lot has been going on this week involving this project! On Wednesday, council members met to talk about project progress, plan for Saturday’s class, and define various roles. On Thursday council members met once again to talk about problems they faced financially and due to time and on Friday members met to talk about last minute arrangements and plan for their trip next week. And on Saturday our first meeting was held! It was a success and five of nine invite mothers showed up. The class was an introduction to the program and general concepts that we will go over the course of six months. The purpose of this first meeting was to build rapport with the mothers. Children were fed a meal according to Myplate standards.
