New English Certification Program

The purpose of this new program is to give the participating students an opportunity to take certified English classes at Leon’s “Alianza Americana.” The participants are required to attend all classes in the Community Center and to take a proficiency test, after which, if they are successful, they will be given a scholarship to attend

Community Center Work for Food Program

The community council members developed a list of 5 small projects in different sectors of the community. In the next meeting they will decide which one of these projects is most important to be done. The funding for the realization of the selected project will be provided by WCRF.

Travel Bulletin

The political and social situations of Nicaragua are stable. We can see that more tourists are coming to visit us, which means more income for many economic sectors in the country. Even though the opposition tries to destabilize the situation, violence is avoided, signifying that, in general, the people want just to work and live

WCRF Outreach Reading

We are now covering, under the Library and Literacy Program, three sectors in the Community, and the Secondary School. We are working on arrangements to open a another new reading station in another sector. So far the covered sectors are Las Carrero, Tolapita, and La Rinconada.

iPads Donated for New Computer Program

Thanks to Irv Scott and several senior  baseball players who just completed a goodwill baseball trip to Nicaragua, 20 new Apple iPads will be donated to the new computer literacy program in La Calle Real. Through Irv and his connections he was able to provide the funding to help initiate an opportunity for young people

Sociopolitical Nicaragua Update

The political situation in Nicaragua is coming slowly but steadily to normality. The government is negotiating with the opposition in order to avoid violence. For tourists the country is again becoming an interesting and safe place to visit. This is evident in that our Baseball Tour took place in complete safety.
