This is Emery and he is the FIRST EVER WorldWide Child Relief college scholarship recipient. Emery and his family live in Nicaragua, which has taken a severe economic hit with the recent COVID pandemic. Emery’s family survives on his mother’s tortilla business and his father’s traveling vet service, which brings in about $5 a day. Emery wakes up every day between 3am-4am to start the daily chores, which include pulling water from the well to fill the water barrels for the day’s work. If not doing odd jobs for work himself, he is home helping wash the clothes, gather firewood, among other things.
Emery wants to study systems engineering, with an emphasis in web development and marketing. When asked what this scholarship means to him, he said, “It is my LITERALLY my only hope of getting an education and doing a job I love and someday providing for a future family.”
Congratulations Emery! We will be cheering you on.
