When traveling to Nicaragua it is such a different world than what we enjoy here. Where we go it is a world of extreme poverty where many people live without plumbing, refrigeration, and cook over a wood fire. Employment is scarce or obtained for wages at a rate of a few dollars a day. We work hard at improving education, health, job opportunities, and a better quality of life. Library and Reading Literacy Program

  1 in 5 children in Nicaragua never learn to read or write, leading to adult illiteracy, and the perpetuation of the extreme poverty cycles that exist in Nicaragua today. Community Outreach

Each trip we take time to go out to the community and talk with the locals. This gives our volunteers to experience a world completely new and humbling to them. We have heard many say that it has changed their lives and given them a much broader perspective.  This experience is usually a highlight for many who do the Charitour.

We started a weekly reading program in the community. This is a new concept for this community, as they have never had a library that allows them to check books out and take them home. We have hired a local person to read to various groups of children each week. This is promoting a new love of reading.
