Gerald is a 19 year old young man who is completely deaf. Because of this he has never had the opportunity to attend school or participate in activities in the community. 3 years ago, Gerald began attending the Special needs class. It became very apparent to the teacher how intelligent he was and how eager he was to learn new things. WWCRF was able to partner with the organization Mayflower International Outreach for Gerald to receive hearing aides and for the first time in his life he heard the world around him. Gerald is learning to make letter sounds and has started learning sign language. He is particularly good at disassembling and assembling anything he can get his hands on. In the near future we are hoping for Gerald to start an apprenticeship with a local mechanic where he can gain new skills that could potentially provide a source of income.
