Thanks to recent donations in behalf of the recent passing of Denise Young, we are now more than doubling the scope of our pilot program to feed malnourished kids in La Calle Real, Nicaragua. We are now feeding 15 kids, four days per week.
The purpose of the nutrition program is to improve the children’s health in the community by providing 4 nutritious meals per week to the community’s most vulnerable children. The program also focuses on instructing their caretakers on how to provide nutritional meals for their children at a very low cost. Working with the community health center, 15 malnourished children were identified and chosen to participate in the program. Each child receives 4 nutritious meals each week. Parents are taught different topics regarding nutrition, food preparation and their children’s health. Parents are also asked to contribute to the program by helping with the meal preparation, by working in the community garden or serving in the community center. The objective is that in 6-12 months, these children and their families will complete the program and have the tools they need to provide better, healthier meals for their children so that others can participate as well.
